Who can participate in the parade?
Everyone who celebrates women winning the vote is welcome - including men who support women's rights. Our parade group is non-partisan. You do not need to be a member of an organization. You can march as an individual or with your family. Children are also invited to participate, but must be closely supervised by their parents or guardians. Period Costume is encouraged.

Do I have to wear a costume?
Costumes are not required, but dressing in all-white would be appreciated, except for those with native costumes or organizational uniforms. The women who participated in the original suffrage parades wore the colors adopted for the movement: white, purple, and gold to designate truth, courage and loyalty. Long-sleeved white blouses with long white skirts and brimmed hats with purple sashes will serve. For costumes ideas and Suffrage slogans, look in the library and on web sites: and Shop costume shops and thrift stores and rummage sales. (Don't overlook wedding garb.)

Where Can I get a “Vote for Women” Sash?

Commemorative centennial purple sashes will be available to purchase for you to wear in the parade. Please let us know how many you wish to purchase when you register through our email address, . The cost is $10 per sash. Please bring either a check made out to the Berkeley Historical Society or cash to the parade. We may have sashes to sell as we stage for the parade.
