Brief Program at 5:00

John Frederick (“J.F.”) Altermatt was a prolific designer and builder of mostly Spanish-style houses primarily in Berkeley and Oakland between 1923 and the Depression. He built this house on Arlington Avenue in 1929 for Fisk M. and Agnes Ray. Its current owners are George and Sandra Petty.

Enjoy conversation, hors d’oeuvres, wine and soft drinks, and viewing this intriguing home full of handcrafted details. Learn from owner George O. Petty about its history and his researches on the builder, J.F. Altermatt. Hear comments about BHSM’s current activities and future vision—the “Museum of Berkeley”—delivered by BHSM president Ann Harlow, singer/activist Country Joe MacDonald, and former Berkeley mayors/California assembly members Loni Hancock and Tom Bates.

Weather permitting, this will be an indoor/outdoor event; vaccinations, boosters, masks, and dressing in layers highly recommended.

Kindly RSVP by November 5: Sign up via Eventbrite or mail a check with guest name(s), mailing address and email address to:
