SPRING 2012 Walking Tours
This walk was originally scheduled for Saturday March 31 but due to inclement weather it has been rescheduled for two dates, 28 July and 4 August 2012.
Hillside Court- lower Panoramic Neighborhoods - Led by Buzz Cardoza
A walk through one of the oldest neighborhoods south east of the campus. Home to many early professors. Houses designed by Bernard Maybeck, Julia Morgan, Walter Steilberg, John Hudson Thomas, Walter Ratcliff Jr., John Galen Howard and Henry Gutterson. Steep streets and stairway paths. Not wheelchair accessable.
Saturday April 14: Lower University Ave.& San Pablo Ave. International market place. - Led by Allen Stross
Evolution of San Pablo Ave. around University Ave. from a rundown commercial area into an International Market area with 3 Middle Eastern, 2 Mexican and 1 Spanish grocery stores. Also several Indian clothing, grocery stores and dinning spots plus a German bakery.
Saturday April 28 : Northbrae & the Trolleys - led by Phil Gale
A hike exploring the relationship between the street railroads and the real estate interests in developing the area. Not wheelchair accessible on walkways and stairs.
Saturday May 19: 4th Street commercial area rebirth - led by Allen Stross
Explore the transformation of a decaying industrial area into a dynamic small shopping and dining area. We will also visit the office of the person who brought this all about and see a slide show of the change in the neighborhood.
This walk was originally scheduled for Saturday June 2 but it is now scheduled for Saturday 25 August 2012.
Piedmont Ave. Gayley Rd. & North campus - Led by Paul Grunland and Steven Finacom
We will explore the east side of the U.C. Campus including Founder’s Rock, The Greek Theater and the Stadium complex. We will discuss the history of the developments along Gayley Road and Piedmont Ave. The walk will end at the Faculty Club.
Saturday June 9: Bonus tour of Premier Cru Wine Store - STARTS 11 AM
For those subscribers to at least three Spring 2012 tours. A tour of a wine store that specializes in French wines. Included in the tour will be their specialty wine rooms.
